Your Jogging KitWhile is generally one of the cheaper activities to engage in, it doesn’t hurt to put in a little money and purchase the right gear to help make your jogging experience a whole lot more enjoyable. When selecting your jogging gear however, you can waste alot of money very quickly if you're just grabbing anything off the racks. Proper care in selecting apparel that will actually enhance your jogging experience is what you're looking for. The basics of what you need are; socks, a running shirt, suitable shorts, a jersey or pollyprop, a water bottle, and most importantly a good pair of jogging shoes. Socks Thick wollen socks may be comfortable, but they're not really appropriate for jogging as they encourage your feet to sweat alot. Thick cotton socks are good for keeping away blisters especially for long-distance jogging. Special synthetic socks are very useful as they are light and cool, and do not add bulk to your feet. They also promote moving the sweat away from your feet. Shorts Synthetic fibers are definitely popular choices for jogging shorts as they provide a dry jogging experience. These fibers move moisture away from the skin towards the outer layers of the material for easy evaporation. Another consideration is the fit of the shorts. Baggy pants will definitely hinder your jogging movement. You may choose them if you are comfortable with them. However, it is better if you choose well-fitting pants that do not impede your jogging movement. Shorts that fit well through the hips and are above the knees are recommended. T-Shirts Cotton is not the best if you're going to be running alot as cotton absorbs sweat heavily and can become sweat-stained and smelly, even after being washed. Special fabric that moves moisture away from the skin towards the outer layers of the material for easy evaporation will do well for any runner. These t-shirts can be found in any sports store and, although they may seem a little expensive compared to standard cotton, they're worth the upfront extra expense in the long run if you're going to be jogging frequently. Polyprop Tops and Leggings Although they are not exactly required, on colder days, you will want help to keep your muscles warm. A quality polyprop set is a good way to keep warm, without adding the bulk of a heavy top or pants. Polyprops are good as they don't get too hot either as you start to warm up. Recently, "Skins" have become a popular accessory. These are similar to the tight polyprop material, but use extremely advanced technology to keep your muscles in optimum condition and temperature, and to improve recovery of your muscles. "Skins" are rather expensive, so probably not for the casual jogger, but worth a little investigation. Jogging Shoes The most important piece of equipment any runner needs is a good and trusty pair of shoes. Choosing the right pair of shoes is essential to maximizing your running experience and avoiding any untoward injuries or strains resulting from the wrong choice of foot gear. Good shoes will give good traction to help your feet grip the ground firmly. When choosing a shoe, check its traction and ask if the shoe holds well even on wet surfaces. You may test it for a few minutes to get a feel for its grip before purchasing it. You will also need to take into consideration what surfaces you're running on. While it's best to avoid running on concrete pavements, if you are going to be running on concrete make sure you select a pair of shoes with a well cushioned heel, that has been designed for use on concrete. The condition of your jogging shoes is vital to your enjoyment and success in avoiding injury. Talk to your local shop assistant or podiatrist about the best option before purchasing, and replace your jogging shoes at least every 10,000 km. Investing in good equipment shows your interest in your jogging regimen. After purchasing such, make sure you DO use them and get into a jogging habit. Have a great jogging lifestyle and choose wisely! |
